Sebastian S. Kresge born 1867 in Bald Mountain Pennsylvania started as a poor boy with vision. He opened a Detroit store in 1899 selling inexpensive items and built a nationwide chain through value, service and budget prices. Expansion followed as demand grew and merchandise widened.
