Hood College to offer Hudson Beneficial Scholarships
Hood College president Dr Martha E Church announced the Hudson Beneficial Fund for Academic Excellence will fund scholarships and a faculty fellowship. The Hodson Trust and Beneficial Corporation support provides more than ten scholarships annually covering one third to two thirds of tuition for entering undergraduates and continuing education students. Scholarships rely on academic merit rather than financial need with SAT ACT grades and high school rank, plus an interview and essay. Renewal possible for up to four years. An additional Hodson Beneficial Award honors outstanding prior year performance for returning full time students. A Hudson Beneficial Faculty Fellowship will provide paid professional development leave for faculty research and growth.

Windfall tax status and Cuba ties topics debated
The president’s windfall profits tax plan to recapture 3.3 billion from oil companies through 1981 awaits action in the House Ways and Means Committee with hearings due this week. Public election financing costs hover between 25 and 90 million per election, per FEC estimates. A voter survey shows Marylanders oppose restoring relations with Cuba. The Udall lands bill would largely preserve offshore and onshore oil potential from development. Applications for social security numbers are available at offices with proof of identity and two documents.
