Frederick County faces a 40 864 mile operating budget with 1 335 per student and a 14 million construction plan. Most funds go to salaries for 1477 teachers and 161 support staff, totaling 73 percent of 40.004 million. Other costs include utilities and maintenance for 41 schools and 205 buses.
A Frederick County computer teen Vincent J. Mooney Jr of Walkersville and Allegany County GOP member William R. King of Cumberland joined the list of Republicans seriously considering a 1980 bid for the Sixth District seat. Also weighing candidacy are three regional GOP state legislators led by Sen. Edward P. Thomas, who represents the area, as the party eyes the contest to replace Rep Beverly B. Byron.
Frederick and Washington counties figure in a report on Edward J. Mason and Raymond E. Beck as minority leaders. An advisory jail committee led by Judge Stanley Demnett and Jail Administrator David Dexrea will gather design proposals, with architects to be invited, as state and county funds total about 2.1 million. The plan anticipates meeting federal standards, potential future expansion, and separate facilities for work release and juvenile inmates, while considering space for security, education, medical, and recreational areas.
