State weighs saving weekly Maryland lottery game
Maryland Lottery Commission seeks to salvage the weekly lottery as the daily Numbers Game outperforms it. Chair George P. Mahoney notes the weekly draw still matters though last year’s $9.6 million contribution lagged behind the $118 million benefited by the daily game. Since January 1, 49 of 3,000 weekly agents surrendered licenses amid weak sales, with only one $1 million drawing in the past 10 months. Lottery director Martin Puncke calls for revitalization and targeted help. Data show 1976 weekly advertising averaged $16,961 per week versus $11,000 weekly for the more successful daily game.
