Drunken driver loses bid to return to work release
In Frederick Circuit Court Judge William Wenner denied John Grover Burdette's request to rejoin the work release program, citing already public remarks about his lenient sentence. Burdette, 47, argued for reinstatement, while attorney Paul V. Jorgensen faced a separate contempt proceeding for failing to honor a court order in a Potomac Edison case. The judge called Jorgensen's conduct deplorable and warned he might question the attorney's fitness to practice. Burdette expressed disappointment with prison conditions and said he learned a hard lesson from the court. He has about three weeks left in a 30 day sentence and may face real estate business losses without work release.
