A body found about four miles below Seneca is believed to be John E. Froendt, 29, an Arlington area sergeant who disappeared Saturday night while in a wooden boat with his brother in law Charles M. Smith near Selden Island. Montgomery County police investigated after a river drag search by a man named Sullivan, aided by Upper Montgomery and Rockville squads, failed to locate him.

Large Building Collapses During Erection Kills One
Westbury New York area reports a large industrial building under construction collapsed around 11 am. One man died and many workers were injured or trapped as rescue crews and cranes worked to pull others from the rubble at the Westbury Industrial Park on Long Island. The 200 by 150 foot structure was to house an electronics firm. a steel roof girder gave way triggering the collapse.

Man Is Given Suspended Sentence After Shot Incident
A county man was sentenced under a generally suspended term by Magistrate Edward D Storm after a guilty finding on assault and battery against Maynard C Rice. Alan Booker T Jackson 52 of New Design Road fired a shotgun at Rice striking him as he walked for help after car trouble on the Freeway near Buckerstown. Rice reported walking four miles to Jackson’s yard where he was shot as he asked for directions. Jackson claimed Rice ran when questioned and fired two shots at him. Rice notified police at Routes 15 and 28. Witnesses described Jackson well and the defense noted his good reputation. Sentencing for another case involving alcohol at Sabinasville was withheld. Other motorists faced fines for traffic violations and were urged to review state police accident charts.

About 600 people attended the twentieth annual All-County Chorus Festival at West Frederick Junior High School. Prowler Arrested After Found Near Legion Home
A 2 year old Martinsburg man, Jesse Edward Hanna, was arrested by city police after prowlers were reported behind the American Legion Home on East Church Street. Police found a gun, a screwdriver, and 24 bullets on him and he asked for a jury trial. He was jailed for Circuit Court action. Another man fled the scene.

Frederick Cancer Crusade reports full 1959 drive total
The Frederick Cancer Crusade for 1959 has reached its full 310,900 goal with six county areas and Fort Detrick still to be heard from. Mrs. Hazel Lewis said at least another 300 is expected from remaining areas and the drive may match last year’s 312,009 total. Headquarters will close for collections this Saturday and volunteer workers will turn efforts over to area subchairmen. County chairman Mrs. Carroll Wickless announced read ing collection areas with Thurmont leading at 964.67 and other towns reporting sizable increases, including New Market Woodville and Urbana areas.

400 Grocers Hold Dinner in Frederick County Banquet
