Testimony By MacArthur Is Tokyo Puzzle
General MacArthur testified in Washington that the Chinese Reds use every facility in the Korean war. The Far East Air Force reports heavy enemy air activity limited to MIG Alley, with many sorties and bases estimated in Manchuria and Siberia. Allied air losses are modest so far, but potential mass air power worries airmen as they question why Reds have not fully intervened. A modern recipe note ends the piece by describing Welsh rarebit with cheddar and Worcestershire.

Inflation under wartime controls warns of real fire
Washington reports economist Eric Johnston says wage price controls slow inflation but won't suffice long term. He predicts a sharp inflation surge next fall unless tighter credit curbs and higher rates are enacted, with defense spending intensifying the gamble. Johnston advocates stronger stabilization measures and tax steps to drain excess money, while urging closer control of consumer credit as war production drives up material demand.
