Referendum on pari mutuel harness racing set for Frederick County
Frederick County voters will decide next November on legalizing pari mutuel wagering for harness racing. Governor Lane signed the General Assembly’s bill after it passed, with the county leaders notified at a Friday meeting. The act also raises the County License Commissioner salary from 1500 to 2400 annually, while vetoing several pay raise proposals for clerks in the Frederick circuit courts and other counties. Also approved were bills on teacher pensions, retired teachers’ increases, chiropractors advertising limits, road funding, farm equipment eligibility, and fuel tax changes for diesel users, with Rent Control Act extensions to June 1, 1950.
