City Employes Voted Increase In Salaries
The mayor and aldermen approved raises for municipal officials and workers to counter living costs and retain staff. Water, park, and street department employees all received boosts, with the city attorney rising to 1500 a year and the plumbing inspector to 1600. The light plant engineer also advanced to 1500. Traffic and noise complaints prompted referrals to committees, and the city granted use of CCC camp buildings for a Crippled Children’s camp. Firemen sought 250 to help cover 450 worth of recent purchases, while sand distribution for defense was ordered and a spring clean-up planned. A new fire alarm system concept was discussed, and a local siren installation was approved pending wiring. Police uniform costs were accepted at 1280, to outfit a limited number of officers. The pool’s opening status and related health considerations remained under review.
