Cline Notes Bowling Improvements Driving Higher Scores
Cline reports that regulations and improvements have boosted duckpin scores as plastic pins replace wooden ones and a newly slippery metal surface raises pin height. Gutters sit closer to lanes, a rubber panel is added, and the pin setting surface lowered to hit pins higher, with similar upgrades spreading locally and in the Washington Baltimore area. Jeff Pyles posted a 655 series at Glenmont Lanes Bethesda and a 901 team game. others show frequent 500 sets and 290s. Averages rise, with Mt. Airy bowlers up by about 42 to 17 points, prompting more alleys to adopt upgrades to sustain interest.
