Man of 80 Abhors Present Day Fashions Says Skirts Are Too Abbreviated

John T. Gaver, who on February 3 this year passed the 80th milestone in life, voiced strong disapproval of modern women’s attire. He blamed mothers for current dress styles, calling dresses too abbreviated and low about the neck, urging reform. Born in Highland in 1842, he worked as a cooper, farmed 60 and 135 acres, and is now living with a son near Adamstown. He recalls Civil War memories and a horse thief capture at his father's farm, detailing a bluff with an empty gun and five men surrendering. He remains active though hearing is diminished.

Whisky flask found under bridge construction in Mays Landing

Frank Harrold, a state inspector, says a half pint of apple whisky 42 years old was found beneath the bed of Babcock's Creek as a bridge crew prepared to drive a pile. He theorizes the bottle was dropped during railroad work in 1880 and later buried by sediment. Workers who tasted it found it a superior grade and "mighty powerful."
