Maryland lawmaker Smelser to retire after four decades in office

Union Bridge reports Sen Charles Smelser, Frederick County elder statesman of Maryland politics, will retire from the General Assembly when his term ends next January. City woman killed in Md. 194 accident

Frederick County police report a 36 year old Woodsbord woman, Susan Campbell Burdette of River Run Court, died when her 1993 Dodge Caravan crossed the center line on Md. 194 near Gruber Road and was struck broadside by a passing 1981 International cargo truck. The tractor trailer involved in the initial approach fled the scene.

Glade Elementary School attendance area proposed by Gadra

Two County Middle Schools Move to Four Period Day

The Frederick County Board of Education approved a four period day at Walkersville and Monocacy middle schools for next fall. Each day will feature four 90 minute classes replacing seven 45 minute periods.

Duvall Business Founder Harold Duvall Dies at 91

Harold Bradford Duvall of 920 River Ridge Road Frederick died Wednesday May 4 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He and wife Thelma Barnes Duvall owned HB Duvall Inc on East Patrick Street for 46 years until its sale in 1991. Keeney Basford Funeral Home will announce arrangements later.
