ANNAPOLIS AP Lowell K. Bridwell will quit his post as head of the Maryland Department of Transportation at the end of May for personal reasons. Gov. Harry Hughes praised Bridwell for restoring the agency’s credibility and securing a gasoline tax increase, while Bridwell has been known for independent views on transit funding and regional taxes. Panos said Bridwell notified the governor April 12 of his plan to resign.
