Countians Ready to Vote in Frederick County Primary
Frederick County voters will vote Tuesday in 26 polling places open 14 hours from 7 am to 9 pm for about 50,000 registered voters. A switch to punch card machines is new this year, with a computer counting system now used by about 40 percent of U S voters. Each polling place will have one machine per 400 to 500 voters, replacing older machines that cost much more. Voters receive demonstrations, sign in, obtain voter authority cards, and cast ballots by punching holes with a stylus at a booth under secrecy and security. Ballots can be replaced if a mistake is made, and ballots are deposited in a locked box.
