Schools Won't Be Ready For Many Pupils

Washington reports a third annual study shows a record graduation of teachers but a continuing shortage of elementary school teachers. The survey, led by Ray C. Maul, notes 22,460 graduates will enter elementary teaching, needed at least 100,000, while high school teachers may outpace demand. It cites overworked teachers, aging staff, and overcrowded rooms, urging higher standards, better colleges, improved conditions, and pay up to 6000 a year.

West Germany Press Softens Cold War Tone Analysis

West Germany's press shows a trend toward neutral stances on American Soviet disputes, except German unification, viewed by observers as a victory for Russian propaganda. The U S High Commission notes mixed feelings, with some anti Communist outlets even criticizing Germany joining NATO. The shift raises questions about reflecting public sentiment amid sharper U S rhetoric.
