A wash of rain saturated fill dirt under the highway caused a sinkhole about eight feet deep and 30 feet long on U S 15 near the inters ection with old Route 15 at Catoctin Furnace. Northbound traffic is detoured while crews assess and repair the damaged roadway.

Man Faces Alcohol Sale Charges In City Court
Harold Edward Fry 47 of South Carroll Street was arrested by City Police on charges of selling alcoholic beverages without a license and possession for sale. Bond set at 2000. Police report confiscated beer whiskey and wine after months of investigation. Fry previously faced similar charges from an October arrest, trial not yet held. Det. Lt. Ellis G. Carty Det. Sgt. Paul W. Mossburg and agents from the State Alcoholic Beverage Unit handled the arrest. Trial for all four charges scheduled May 13 at 10 am in Magistrate's Court.
