Gov. John W. Bricker of Ohio is a lone major challenger to a Dewey bandwagon for the New York nomination on the first presidential ballot at the Republican national convention. Senator Ball plans to move Lieut. Comdr. Harold E. Stassen, but prospects for Stassen seem slim after a South Dakota setback. Senator Brewster of Maine says Dewey appears set to win on the first ballot. Robert Garrett of Baltimore reports his son Lt. John W Garrett, 19, was killed in a bomber crash during an emergency landing at Bentchier Field East Hartford Conn.
A May 4 bulletin orders mess personnel to refrain from cursing cooks both on and off duty. It notes cooks are human and deserve respect and sets a rule against loud or uncouth references to food, fruit juice described as battery acid.
