At the last Board of Aldermen meeting Frederick officials debated building a new municipal lighting plant with an estimated cost near 60 000. A bid from Hagerstown and Frederick Railway to supply current for 5000 annually or 1.75 cents per kilowatt was rejected as the city favors generating its own power. An engineer said buying current could save about 1900 annually, but rate competition and Public Service Commission approval under the 1914 act shape the decision. Proponents expect cheaper electricity for residents and potential surplus sales. opponents warn against burdening nonusers.
