Dunnites 10 Play Morrison's Champs in Exhibition
Baltimore Orioles visit Agricultural Park for an exhibition game against Morrison's Champs next Tuesday afternoon. Jack Dunn brings Lamar, Russell, and several ex Federal Leaguers, with Bill Lamar in right field and Lefty Russell at first base. Two players released include Farrah and Mercer, as Morrison trims the roster and plans for future cuts.
Martinsburg tryout notes mix with Orioles links
Stuffy Johnson long tied to Jack Morrison returns Friday for a try-out in Martinsburg. He plans to go to Baltimore to collect his things after a quick interview with Morrison. Ose Johnson, praised as a heavy Blue Ridge hitter with fifteen homers last season, could play catcher or first base. Earl Mercer is cut from Morrison’s roster as the first in the week’s trimming. Calder aims for an infield job after a strong shortstop display against Western Maryland, including a triple and a right-side single. Hoffecker returns to Martinsburg, negotiating with West Virginia’s pilot while working as an electrical engineer in Hopewell. Rube Meadows is suspended indefinitely by Dunn for lack of effort. Lamar continues to shine in Baltimore’s right field. The Potomac League in Western Maryland opens, with former Blue Ridge players reappearing. Lefty Russell, the 12000 dollar prize, moves toward Orioles’ first base. Trombley shifts from first to outfield as Lamar battles for center field following two homers against Toronto.
