Garris found guilty of murder at Sheppard Pratt

Benjamin Scott Garris, 16, was convicted in Baltimore County Circuit Court of first degree murder for stabbing Sharon Edwards to death last October in Fordham Cottage at Sheppard Pratt Hospital. Jurors also convicted him of felony murder robbery with a deadly weapon and first degree arson. A mistrial on attempted murder charges against two youths will pause those counts. Families faced emotional scenes as verdicts were read and deputies maintained security. Edwards’ relatives spoke of the impact while Garris expressed remorse.

Vigil for Justice calls for stiffer DWI penalties in memory case

About 100 gathered at the Frederick courthouse for A Vigil for Justice honoring Carolyn Jones Hall who was killed by Edward Yanoski in a drunken driving crash. Her daughter Tia Hall and Dawn Onley pressed for the maximum five year sentence and stronger court action to deter drinking and driving while Aldermen and residents voiced frustration with the justice system.

Horn convicted of triple murder in Silver Spring

Lawrence T Horn was found guilty of arranging the contract killings of his ex wife Mildred Horn their quadriplegic son and the boy’s nurse at their Silver Spring home more than two years ago. The nine woman to three men jury deliberated since Thursday and announced the verdict at 11 am at the Frederick County Courthouse.

Gajdusek freed on unsecured bond in molestation case

Nobel laureate Dr Daniel Gajdusek remains free on a 350000 dollar unsecured personal recognizance bond after a Frederick County judge ruled he may not have unsupervised visits. Bond transfer from District Court to Circuit Court was set for May 16 but awaits signatures from collaborators including Dr Paul Brown who is abroad researching mad cow disease.

County May Sweeten Offer to Lure MedImmune Plant

Frederick County plans a Tuesday vote on establishing a tax increment financing district to add 1.3 million in loans to lure MedImmune from Gaithersburg to a site near Solarex off I-70. The district would freeze base values and use growth in value to repay bonds for infrastructure, with multiple banks set to buy the bonds.

Brunswick panel offers city parking remedy

Brunswick's Economic Development Commission proposes a six month plan to curb downtown parking issues. Director Eric Mogensen says attendance was strong last weekend and signs will be updated to reflect the new name Catoctin Wildlife Park. The former Catoctin Mountain Zoo Park name remains visible on some signs as officials plan new branding.
