Frederick County budget reshuffle targets roads and flood control
The Frederick County commissioners unveil a fiscal 1981 budget shift totaling $400,000 for flood control projects in Brunswick and Frederick city, plus $25,000 for the Weinberg Center to leverage a $125,000 state grant. They plan no public hearings on the operating and capital budgets and cite a realistic tax rate hike just under inflation. The plan reallocates funds from road repair accounts and transfers $102,000 into the CIP from a land bank. The total anticipated revenue includes $183,000 in federal revenue sharing and $115,000 in state aid.

Montgomery libraries to close May 14
ROCKVILLE All county libraries will be closed on May 14 to correct records on a new computerised system now containing some 10 000 homes. County officials said equipment failure caused the temporary loss of information, and the one day closing will allow the system to operate at maximum efficiency to retrieve the data. All library material is being converted to computer, including the names of card holders, which will number about 230 000 residents when the system is completed.
