McKendree Riley Etchison 87 prominent retired businessman church and civic leader dies at home 11 West Second Street after lengthy illness. He founded and ran the Etchison funeral firm with his family, active in Frede rick Methodist circles and several fraternal orders. He married Ann Kessler and survived by five children seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral planned at Calvary Methodist Church with burial at Olivet Cemetery.

Clarence Grayson Stevens of Route 5 Frederick sustained severe facial lacerations, multiple fractures, and injuries after a head on collision between his 1950 Chevrolet station wagon and a 1950 International tractor trailer on West Patrick street near Laughman Lane by State Police Barracks B. The truck driver Steward Ensor Roberts of Route 1 Thurmont faced reckless driving and passing charges after the 10 p.m. crash caused about $500 damage to the truck. Stevens was hospitalized with a broken jaw, arm, and ribs and remained in Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment.

One F 80 was destroyed in air combat five planes shot down by ground fire and two failed to return for unknown causes.
