Pears Soap coin story and exonomia in 1880 England
In 1880 England faced coin shortages and Pears Soap imported French 10-centime pieces stamped with PEARS. The coins circulated until a law change sought to ban foreign tender. Some coins survived and are prized by numismatists, with a few in archives and dealer boxes. Uncirculated coins and proof sets can be obtained from banks or the Mint.
