Disastrous Tornado Struck Here Thirty Years Ago

A dark rainy evening thirty years ago near Frederick brought the county’s worst tornado. It tore through a small area injuring and killing residents, wrecking homes, barns, and silos, with extensive property damage and two deaths. Homes along Montevue Pike and Harmony Grove suffered severe destruction as the storm moved northeast toward Arenfield and the Monocacy River. Telephones out, floodwaters rose, and roads became impassable for days while crews surveyed the damage and hospitals treated the injured.
