E Walker & Co announces new spring dress goods and accessories in stock at 1376 Birwe pot Goons. The shop promises fresh arrivals including French serge and heavy drill bleached muslin, with parasols hosiery and gloves on hand.
Local merchants promote carpets wine and beer, with City Carpet House at 43 North Market Street in Frederick Maryland offering genuine goods and a factory nearby. G H RAIlings advertises tools and supplies with weather and theater notes, while D C Winebrewer & Co markets new dress goods. The issue also lists weather by district and a local obituary noting Nancy Shilling’s death at Funkstown with unusual hair color change after death.
The Valley Land and Improvement Company organized under a recent act has taken control of the Luray Inn and Cave in Luray Virginia. Officers named include D. F. Ragy president G Marshall vice president T. C. McCordle secretary and H. M. Kerr treasurer.
James A C Bond of Carroll county has accepted the judgeship for the fifth judicial circuit embracing Carroll Howard and Anne Arundel. Bond succeeds the late John E Smith after Hon Charles B Roberts declined, commission sent by the Secretary of State. Bond, born 1844 in Calvert county, educated at Charlotte Hall Academy and Princeton, practiced law since 1867 and has served as counsel to Carroll County Commissioners and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He married in 1872 and has three children. The Burkittsville Literary Society entertainment and Lutheran church benefit will be repeated tomorrow night with a varied program and refreshments.
Business on the Baltimore Stock Exchange was active with transactions greatest in railroad bonds and select stocks. Seaboard and Roanoke Railroad pays five percent dividend for six months on common stock, Pennsylvania Railroad declares a one percent dividend. The national debt falls by 7 639 901 in April as Wall Street stocks rise, and Henry S Ives and Co. offers creditors five cents on the dollar.
The Baxter family of Keedysville in Washington County endures a string of bereavements. Laura V. Baxter died April 25 after a lingering illness, following earlier losses including Mrs James Baxter and son Charles. Laura’s funeral, led by Rev A A Evers with Rev Nihiser, drew a crowded church and notable floral tributes.

The May 1 1890 eight hour day demonstrations in America and Europe drew large crowds in Chicago and New York with no reported disturbances. Carpenters led walkouts while some employers granted concessions or sent disputes to arbitration. In Europe demonstrations were restrained by military presence with minor clashes in Pesth and Prossnitz.
A scattered column recalls a new Colorado paper called the Watermelon and its inside joke about being red. It also mentions a Saint-Saëns composition, Hamlet quotes, stage chatter, and a Baltimore Sun note that Mr Wim. J. Hardt of Frederick began duties as national bank examiner supervisor in Washington.
John H Whittier and wife transfer 6 perches of land to Houck for $50 in a real estate note. A curiously garbled line references Georges A famous Washington gambler turned preacher. The fragment mentions remedies and tonics including Dr Bull's Cough Syrup Salvation Oil and various pills with no coherent context.

A Frederick Sun dispatch reports a bleak peach outlook due to mild winter followed by severe frosts. Experts cite widespread bud loss, especially on early blooms, with only possible fruit from later buds. Despite losses, many farmers are expanding peach cultivation, planting thousands of trees across Catoctin, Frederick Junction, and Emmitsburg areas, including Globe and Crawford varieties. apples are believed to be intact.
Since Rev. N H Skyles resignation the Jefferson county Reformed church has struggled for a pastor. After calls to Coblentz and Carmahan were declined and J A Snyder declined in 1830, Harry Ditmar from Pembrirensis accepted the latest call. He will begin duties June 1.
The season opener between the Hagerstown and Frederick clubs ended tied at 3 to 3 after a rough game in Hagerstown. The contest featured late inning action and earned runs by both teams as fans packed the stands. In a separate report, Charles Absit, son of Ezehart, a Jefferson County native, was shot in Shelba Mo during an election bet dispute, severely wounding Kal. the incident followed a winter stay in the county.
At a church meeting the Evangelical Lutheran council voted to add a handsome tower to the new Sunday school building with a cost of 1400 dollars. The total for the building and improvements is expected to reach 15000 to 16000 dollars.
