Young angler nets 27 pound striper on Smith Mountain Lake
The 12 year old Jason Jodon won a Smith Mountain Lake striper fishing trip as a door prize at the Spring Bass Boat and Tackle Show. Bill Morris of MARE Inc. arranged the prize but forgot the adults only rule, prompting Jason to persist. Rich Jodon and Tom Mosley of Fredericktowne Bassmasters joined the party, with Kurt Flemming guiding. Jason landed the best catch, a 27 lb 8 oz striper, after an evening fish fry and overnight at a fishing camp.

Kentucky Anglers Lead In Four Day Bass Catch at Lake Gaston
At Lake Gaston a group of four Kentucky anglers netted 84 bass in four days. Jim Abner of Buggs Island reported strong catches while fishing a Speed Shad on his home waters. Kirk Gravitt near Clarksville weighed 27 lbs 4 oz from a limit including a 7 lb 3 oz largemouth. Edenton anglers used live salamanders on Anna Campbell Lake's bass. Gene Small caught a 6 lb 14 oz largemouth on crankbait. Ron Sisk landed an 11 oz bass on the Eastern Shore. Local ponds and rivers show improving bass activity with several fish in the 4 to 14 oz range and larger specimens reported on the Susquehanna and nearby reservoirs. The tourney circuit features upcoming events on the James River and Lake Wythe as well as a Big Slack Water open.
