Fire log reports numerous brush and vehicle fires Sunday night

Fire calls from multiple volunteer companies across Maryland show a sequence of brush fires, building and automobile fires, and field blazes. Responding units include United, Brunswick, Middletown, New Market, and others. incidents occurred from early morning to late evening with notable totals along Old National Pike and Picnic Woods Road.

Weather Outlook For Maryland As Dry Spell Persists

A weak cold front lowered temperatures briefly but southerly winds lift temps Tuesday. No rain in sight to end a three week dry period. Western Maryland will be clear and mild tonight with 44 to 50 lows, mostly sunny and warm Tuesday. Maryland mountains expect highs near 70 today and in the 70s Tuesday. Record highs were set or approached in the region with Frederick near 65 Sunday, close to the 86 March record. David Lesher.

Strong quake rocks San Francisco area

A strong 5.2 to 5.6 magnitude quake struck 10 miles east of Fremont at 3:56 a.m. rattling the Bay Area. Three minor injuries were reported as aftershocks followed. power outages and downed lines affected the region from Santa Rosa to San Luis Obispo and Stockton. Residents recalled dishes, water, and transformers affected as switchboards jammed with calls.

Last-year tag renewal fees to fund velvet agency shift

Boat, motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle dealers report brisk sales driven by lower gas prices and favorable interest rates, with demand for mid size boats and larger horsepower motors. Local dealers cite a shift toward more mobile, travel ready units and versatile vehicles for recreation and work.

Biology professor joins Potomac Edison advisory board

Dr. Werner Kundig, biology professor and chair at Hood College in Timonium, is named to the Educational Assistance CAI Advisory Board of Potomac Edison. He joins nine other members from higher education and industry to guide areas where education and industry intersect, especially in computer assisted instruction, with advisory input on projects, seminars, and events. Dr. Kundig earned master's and doctorate in Zurich and taught at Loyola College, Johns Hopkins, and Towson State before Hood.
