Baltimore MTA proposes fare hike to raise revenue and curb ridership drop
Mary Louise Cramer RN watches as a Maryland School for the Deaf student donates blood during a recent bloodmobile drive. MTA officials, including Wagner, outline a plan to raise basic adult fares from 60 to 75 cents with other increases to fund roughly $6 million in next year’s operating costs, citing labor heavy expenses and a 50 percent fare-recovery mandate. If approved, new fares would take effect June 5 after three public hearings, amid plans to boost service quality, add buses, and open the Baltimore Metro with 80 new buses and repairs to several aging units.
