Hillside Strangler suspect charged in murders
Los Angeles police booked 37 year old Beverly Hills maintenance man Peter Mark Jones for investigation of murder in two Hillside Strangler killings. His childhood friend George Shamshak, jailed in Massachusetts, testified he watched Jones kill three women in a Ford van, with one stabbed, one strangled, and one struck with a blunt object.

A moderate earthquake of 4.2 struck the Puget Sound area early today, felt within a 50 mile radius. Officials at Newport Reanalytic Observatory said the quake centered roughly midway between Tacoma and Bremerton, with no damage or injuries reported. B F Goodrich Tire Division announces a voluntary recall of about 2775 passenger tires including 2265 units of F60-15 belts and 510 units of 67 14 four ply belts with various brand names. Known customers will be notified to visit dealers for free replacement and balancing within 60 days. Man survives 29 story plunge from Transamerica shaft

Leonard Cox president of UMW construction Local 1582 at Marmet in Kanawha County urged an end to picketing after construction miners without a contract shut mines.
