The district convention of the M C A covering Frederick Washington Berkeley and Jefferson counties will convene in Hagerstown Friday through Sunday April 6 to 8 with about forty delegates expected. WaHretine W Va March 80 News reports a devastating fire at John Witt's McKendree home killing eight children and a servant girl Mary Hendricks. Mrs Witt escaped in a nightgown. cause attributed to a defective flue. Witt, a railroad watchman, was away at 5 am. The family’s charred remains were buried together. The mother’s shock is described as near insanity. Local neighbors fought to save the nine occupants.
