Maryland Repeals Potomac River Compact Vote in Annapolis

Maryland Senate passes a bill by 22 to 3 to repeal the 1785 Potomac River Compact with Virginia, ending toll-free passage and equal rights while Virginia would retain limited fishing and navigation rights under Maryland licensing and regulation. The move follows debates over cross state waterway governance and calls for a joint study commission to propose mutually acceptable conservation laws. The action is described as binding on both states only if accepted, with ongoing discussion about enforcement and regional impact.
