March marks Developmental Disabilities Month with local groups FCARC Community Living Jeanne Bussard Center and Scott Key Center recognized for aiding residents. FCARC founded by parents to provide services, later expanding to Harmony Grove Rock Creek School Scott Key Center and Community Living programs. FCARC offers respite care counseling equipment and financial assistance plus Service Coordination and support groups. Community Living provides home environments and activities. Jump Rope for Heart Supports Charity at Middletown Elementary
Middletown Elementary held its fourth Jump Rope for Heart event sponsored by the American Heart Association. Over 250 fifth graders pledged and jumped for three hours, raising 10,710 dollars. Dawn Smith was the top fundraiser with 350 dollars. the leading team raised 669.60. First graders held a poster contest with winners Tracey Hicks, J.T. Moore, Cora Reid, Kristen Shakely, and Gina Galica honorable mentions. Volunteers from the PTA provided snacks and event support.
