Reuther Wins UAW Presidency Over Thomas in Convention
Atlantic City March 27 Walter P Reuther won the United Auto Workers CIO presidency by 125 votes over incumbent R J Thomas. Final tally Reuther 4445 Thomas 4320 with 65 of about 2000 delegates abstaining. Reuther pledged unity and a drive to organize white collar workers and seek wage increases with no price rises while pressing industry wide bargaining.
