Five Die From Gas in Two Philadelphia Homes

Gas killed five men and seriously injured a 7 year old girl in two Philadelphia houses after a gas meter was opened and a room filled with gas. Police say a quarrel between a father and stepmother preceded the tragedy at 3504 Vernon Street. A fourth victim in a separate case died later at Presbyterian Hospital, while a third house reported three more deaths after a train strike nearby.

Painting Too Realistic Traps Birds in Imaginary Tree

In Cleveland on March 27 EB C McKay painted a large mural landscape on a blank wall opposite his office in the Swetland Building. He claims the effort cost the lives of at least two birds as they attempted to alight on the depicted tree and broke their necks. McKay described watching the birds swoop toward the imagined tree and crash into the roof outside his window. The incident underscores the danger of art creating lifelike features in plain walls.
