Ten cases of non-attendance were tried before Justices J Grahame Johnson and Aidan M Wood. All defendants were found guilty but fines were suspended with costs 2 to 5 dollars. Colored pupils from Centerville and white pupils from Harmony faced the bench. The law was explained and cases held open pending regular attendance.

School Girls Now Smoking in Wheeling Area
Complaints by school authorities about rising cigarette use among girls and boys in Wheeling West Virginia led to four prominent grocers appearing before Squire John Kondelberge. All pleaded guilty and were fined ten dollars plus costs.
