Canal Hikers Guests At Kanawha Trail Trek Pace

A 23 member party led by Justice Douglas began a 189 mile walk from Cumberland to Washington crossing into Frederick County Thursday evening. They lunched at Potomac Shores near Weverton and pressed on to Camp Kanawha at Point of Rocks despite fog drizzle and slick tow-path. Veteran hiker George Frederick Miller, 73, arrived first at Camp Kanawha after a 25 mile leg. Nine of the group of 35 starters remain on the trail toward Seneca as editor Merle Pusey rides partway due to a strained leg.
