Douglas Leads 184 Mile Canal Hike For Parkway Plan

U S Supreme Court Justice William Douglas led 23 hikers through Brunswick Maryland as about 200 residents cheered a parkway banner urging preservation of the canal route. Douglas advocates cleaning the old Chesapeake and Ohio Canal for public camping and scenic use while opponents push development to boost trade.

Thelma Barnes, elected class president at Halina Morrison School in Washington, is now hospitalized at Franklin Square. Mr and Mrs Douglass Burnett Jr have moved into the Hawkins residence. Burnett works as an attorney for Cornell Chemical and Equipment Co in Baltimore. Andrea Henze won the Sykesville school Sunpapers Spelling Bee.

Grange meeting Tuesday night at Walkersville Community Hall conferred first and second degrees for Mary OM Haifleigh Glenn E Faves and Rev Ben F Hartley from Glade Valley and two candidates from Thurmont Grange Catherine Roderick National Youth Advisory board announced Monona Youth will fill chairs and present program at Middletown March 29 a ten dollar Red Cross gift was given closing song God Be With You Til We Meet Again refreshments served next meeting April 13 at 8 p.m.
