Law could hike school lunch prices in Frederick County
The welfare reform legislation passed by the House could raise lunch costs for Frederick County students. The school system would seek to recoup a $750,000 loss in federal lunch assistance by raising prices from $1.00 to $1.60 for elementary and from $1.50 to $1.90 for secondary students. Critics like Rep Rogie Bartlett dispute the loss claim, while officials warn that reduced price lunches could be eliminated and many children may not afford meals.
