Carroll Creek project blamed for damage to 240-year-old building

Carroll Creek flood control construction has damaged a 240 year old structure at 2 S Wisner St. Owner Boyd R. Smith says vibrations from the project cracked stone walls in several places and fears the building may collapse despite stabilization efforts.

Building crack threat delays city workers visit

Mr. Smith said the building could collapse any time as cracks widened overnight. Mayor James Grimes, aldermen, and city engineers inspected Wednesday, but the resident complained of inaction and urged more daily checks. Continued on Page A.

New hoist to aid Maryland rescue helicopter operations

Maryland State Police introduce a folding hoist device to hoist patients horizontally from cliffs or rivers. Frederick County Advanced Technical Rescue members trained with the Stretcher Rescue Net. pilots and medics coordinate hoist, landing, and loading at remote sites.

County to Run Braddock Water Co for Week

Baltimore Frederick County will operate the Braddock Water Co for at least a week as the state Public Service Commission delays ruling on control. PSC member Suzanne Brogan said a written order would be issued within 10 to 14 days after a hearing over the license revocation. Wendy Kearney, assistant county attorney, said the county did not want to be part of the proceedings but was drawn in by circumstances.

Witnesses describe a Black woman about six feet tall with a large hairstyle. a white Dodge may have been used to flee.
