Maryland preps for gypsy moth counter attack in 1982

Maryland state and federal officials plan an airborne fight against the gypsy moth caterpillar that last year defoliated thousands of acres. The program, led by Paul Bystrak, could cost up to 600000 dollars with cost sharing from the federal government. Maryland joins nine states seeking aid as the pest spreads south and west. Dosage methods include Bt Dipel and chemical sprays, with Bt favored for its environmental safety and lack of food crop restrictions.
