Dam Shoddy Plan Leaves Hunting Creek Scoured and Polluted
A long running dispute over a proposed recreation reservoir on Hunting Creek reveals repeated failures by Bill Houck and Spencer Ellis to protect the stream. Faulty planning, dirt moving, and a major sewer line laid without proper permits have caused ongoing damage and drawn taxpayer money into a flawed project. The episode underscores warnings from conservationists about sewage risks with rising park visitation and questions the oversight by the Department of Water Resources.

Say It Isn't So Infrastructure Fiasco Hits Thurmont Plan
State financed Cunningham Falls Reservoir and park sewage handling unleash a cascade of violations and overruns. An inspector issued a notice to the contractor for illegal stream crossings and missing permits while the Department of Water Resources charges the state General Services Administration with water law violations. Sandbags replace dirt to divert water as investigations note heavy stream damage and missing promised ecological studies. Thurmont faces costly upgrades to sewage treatment with the state likely footing much of the bill.
