Lecture On Toby Jugs By Historical Society Speaker
W Richard Etchison outlined Toby jugs as caricatures of men from 1750 to 1850, noting their humor, fine glazes, and notable figures like Martha Gunn. He highlighted Mackintosh holdings, the English potters Ashbury Whieldon and Wood, and the jug’s link to Stingo ale, while detailing visiting Lord and Lady Mackintosh and new society members and upcoming events.

Samaritans Race Back From Decline in Nablus Survey
In Nablus Jordan AP Bruce Conde reports the Samaritan community rebounds from a low around 160 to about 345 amid less persecution and new conversions. Amram Isaac notes factors including ending persecution and intermarriage as contributing to the revival and shows a new white limestone temple and a modern school. The group preserves a relic, the Abisha Scroll, claimed as the oldest Pentateuch copy. A separate notice: Nancy Marie Henderson and Charles Chon Crum Jr. married March 9 at St Al Saints Episcopal Church with a double ring ceremony. The Samaritans continue to venerate Mount Gerizim as the holy site and pray toward it for Passover.
