Pension Bill Riddled With Amendments

Washington March 2 Amid wrangling debate the House amended the Rankin pension bill for World War veterans and postponed final action on the veterans aid measure until tomorrow. The plan would give veterans $90 a month at 65 regardless of need, with administration opposition citing a projected first fifty year cost of 125 billion dollars and escalating annual outlays. Major changes include basing payments on length of service with a flat 10 dollar base plus one dollar per service month plus three dollars for theater service, and restricting grants to those under 2000 income with dependents under 31660. Rankin proposed further delay, and the House voted 173 to 98 to recommit.
