City Hall Fire Damages Part of Building and Smoke Fills Hall

A Friday night blaze at City Hall, likely starting under the staircase from a short circuit, filled the building with smoke and water damage. Fire crews battled the stubborn fire for hours, injuring none but smoke exposure to Chief Wilam F Steiner, who recovered at home. The Water department area suffered the most, with coats, boots, and tools burned, while records remained intact. An investigation traced the blaze to a faulty conduit and ignition of papers near a desk. Mayor Mun and officials inspected, insurance listed, and election supervisors named for the June municipal vote.
