Wet snow and 25 mph northeast winds halt early spring progress with fences still up along state highways to curb drifting. Reports place snow accumulations near three inches by afternoon, with forecasts of continued snowfall and colder air challenging road crews and farming plans.
Snow and freezing temperatures hit Maryland with lights and warnings along coast. In Baltimore a 53 year old man, Joseph Feeney, is believed to have frozen to death after a night out in a vacant lot. A minor vehicle collision at Dulaney avenue and Rockwell Terrace caused no injuries.
Lenten services are set at Calvary M E Church 736 o'clock tonight with Rev G E Williams presiding assisted by Rev Douglass Hoot. Sermon titled Sons of Middle Two anthems Now Every Tongue Adore Bach and God Is 4 Spr Bennet will be sung. Wade Male Chorus directed by Prof Henry T Wade with Miss William Rhoads at the organ.
Maggie of Long Island City wins $150000 as Golden Miller takes the Grand National at Aintree with 200000 in prize money shared by Americans. Delaneige and Thurmond II place second and third as Dorothy Paget’s entry dominates. Easter break schedules and county field meet planned for Maryland and Frederick schools.
Frederick county Catholics plan to participate in the Maryland Tercentenary with a military field Mass at Baltimore Stadium on May 30. A meeting at Mt. St. Marys College examined attendance prospects and bus charters to visit nearby colleges and shrines.

Mr Hall was introduced by Charles A Opel Jr exalted ruler of the Frederick lodge and gave a short talk. He was accompanied by several other men members of the Martinsburg lodge.
The fourth meeting in a Bar Scout training series took place at the Maryland State School with A L Varian presenting The Practical Scout program. Certificates will be issued April 12 to about 20 participants and next sessions are planned at Camp Baker Braddock and the Maryland School.
Dr. Paul Eddy, head of the New York office of the International Council of Religious Education, spoke during the Chapel hour at Hood College. He described the council as training college students for religious work in schools serving coal miner's children and slum areas.
A man described as Arthur Cook, 27, of Oxen Hill roped 50 patrons at a Oxon Hill roadhouse, ordering them to the wall and surrendering cash before off duty Maryland State Police officer Lt. J H Mulls tackled him. Two unarmed companions, Marvin Moffatt and William E Devaughan of Congress Heights DC, were also detained. Cook awaits grand jury action on attempted robbery charges.
Dr Charles F Stecs pastor of the Grace Tarhcen church resigns effective April 29 after 12 years in Warnesboro. Ordained 1882 he came to Warnesboro in 1922 from Washington time and will be the churchs first former pastor to resign.
The De partment of Maryland Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Auxiliary will meet at the Francis Scott Key hotel in this city on May 1 and 2. Delegates from 30 posts across Delaware Maryland the District of Columbia Virginia and West Virginia are expected for sessions a pilgrimage to Antietam on May 1 and a banquet at 7 p m. The department officers include Michael Caser of Washington and Wendell C Hill of Washington with Cora E Michael Baltimore president of the Auxiliary.
In New York on March 23 the markets opened dull and unsure as investors awaited fresh guidance from Washington. Stocks moved mildly mixed, and the ticker moved slowly. Trade showed timidity in commodities with grains and rubber easing and cotton rising amid limited activity. Bond markets were uneven and foreign exchanges featureless as lenders priced risk.
The parish schedules a Lenten cantata on March 25 with an afternoon program and an overture titled The World. The choir lists sopranos Mrs Frank GinSin and others, altos, tenors, basses, and pianist Marshall L Evchson, under conductor James Hemilei Hendricksen. Mayor Shiner says a fire safety test will proceed at city headquarters.
Washington reports the March bank condition call shows 5,100 national banks licensed and operating with assets totaling 21.75 billion dollars. The first 1934 call follows Roosevelt's 1933 bank holiday and notes government capital support of about 1.039 million dollars across roughly six thousand two hundred banks, including about 2,300 national banks.
As of this week Justice Joan W. Lioyd presides over cases in Petersville. Raymond C. Magaha of Washington DC forfeited $3 on a charge of attempting to seize the right of way. A separate charge against John G. Leopold of Macxville for operating without markers was dismissed. State witnesses included Baugh man Chew Elsie Ott James Crouse and AL V. Liord among others.
Obituary notes Mrs. Moyer, former president of the Reading Hood Alumni Club, attended by members of the church and recalling service at Hood College in the class of 1908.
President Roosevelt signaled willingness for more conferences to settle the auto industry dispute. Hugh Johnson mediates while labor leaders and manufacturers await the next move as a strike remains in abeyance. Railroading wage talks with Eastman also noted.
Hood College choir will perform pre Easter music during the Palm Sunday vesper at 4 in Brodbeck Hall. President Joseph H. Apple will speak on The Ministry of Music. Under Prof. Henry T. Wade the program includes marches, chants, choir selections by St Theodulph and Boyce, and pieces by Granier and Rathburn.
Near Taneytown, Jesse Hoke was taken into custody following Mrs. Hoke's statement that he bit her with a chima bowl. The couple were en route on the Taneytown Westminster road when the incident occurred. Mrs. Hoke, bleeding and dazed, identified her husband and later walked miles before collapsing. She is improving and he will be charged with assault and battery.
