Judge Denies Rees New Trial in Kidnapping Slavery Case
On Wednesday Judge Roszel C. Thomson denied defense motions for acquittal and a new trial in the Mehin A. Rees Jr. case. Rees, a Hyattsville musician, was convicted Feb 23 of kidnapping and slaving a Virginia mother and her daughter Mildred Jackson 27 and Susan 5. The ruling clears the path to sentencing Thursday for abducting and murdering the victims whose bodies were found near Gambrills Md March 21 1958 two months after they were reported missing. The judge held there was sufficient evidence that the victims were alive when transported and rejected the new trial and acquittal challenges including the transportation alive issue.
