Copter Loses Engine in Midflight Emergency Landing

A U S Navy twin engine helicopter lost an engine about 10 30 a m between Fort Ritchie and Frederick and landed at the local airport. The crew had dropped a man at Fort Ritchie and were en route to Norfolk when the incident occurred. Four or five uniformed men waited for a replacement engine from Norfolk. An airport spokesman said it was not a desperate situation and the craft would be repaired by late afternoon before resuming its voyage.

Showers May Ease Forest Fire Danger

Thunderstorms and showers forecast tonight through Wednesday are expected to curb fire danger after a weekend watch. Fire towers opened Sunday at Gambrill and Cunningham Falls State Park. three small fires reported near Edgemont Mountain. Rain likely by nightfall and lasting through Wednesday with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.

Landmarks Group Elects Officers in Frederick County

Maryland Senate backs closing land speculators tax loophole

The Maryland Senate preliminarily approved a measure to end the tax break for land speculators and developers who rezoned and subdivided land while paying agricultural rates. The bill, sponsored by Gov. Mandel, would raise assessments by about 45 million dollars by removing the agricultural value loophole. The body also signaled support for a proposal to expand the General Assembly from 185 to 188 members.

Agnew Still Undecided on 72 Role

Vice President Spiro T. Agnew said he has not decided about seeking a second term as vice president this year or about running for president in 1976. He gave a planeside briefing after arriving from Washington D.C. and said Nixon has not asked him to be his running mate again. He added that his comments to the Kansas City Star were misinterpreted and noted the idea of two terms only makes sense if one seeks the presidency.

Twenty five inmates escape Cincinnati jail in bold breakout

In Cincinnati, 25 prisoners including four murder suspects and four women escaped a Hamilton County jail in civilian clothes after a trusted inmate pulled a pistol. Police later recaptured three. a taxi driver aided three escapees who fled toward Dayton. The break began when William Butts, 28, wielding a .32 revolver, overpowered guards and freed inmates on the six floor of the county courthouse.

Loyola Federal Plans Friday Hour Change

Loyola Federal Savings and Loan considers shifting Friday hours to open earlier and close at 6 pm instead of 8 30 pm. A spokesman said the change could take effect next week to aid after work banking at the Patrick Street location.
