Korea War Ends Soon? Ridgway Seeks Settlement Hint

Washington dispatch notes General Ridgway softened talk of a final victory and signaled air for a negotiated settlement with China and North Korea. MacArthur echoed a stalemate possibility, while economic trends show a peaking Korean boom and rising defense production. Prices drift lower as supply and demand rebalance, with tighter bank credit and a slow reconversion to civilian goods. The piece links peace rumors to market dips and argues the war may still widen or end in coming months.
