A New Jersey couple, Mr and Mrs Fred J Cairn of Pompion Lakes, observed the right hand of the 14th New Jersey Volunteer monument damaged with granite pieces detached from the base. A local stonemason cited freeze thaw damage as a possible cause, noting the breakage occurred high on the statue and that vandals could not be confirmed.
