A six member Lithuanian delegation arrived in Moscow to meet Mikhail Gorbachev and seek talks on independence, after the Soviet leader declared Lithuania’s February declaration illegal. Teachers return to classrooms in West Virginia after strike ends

Charleston AP reports teachers across West Virginia return to classrooms after a large turnout vote in 43 of 55 counties ending a L1 day strike. WVEA spokeswoman Jackie Goodwin says the union and vast schools secured respect and unity. In Morgantown North Elementary started an hour late as teachers prepared for students.

Frederick jurors show strong turnout in county trial system

Judge Mary Ann Stepler notes Frederick County Circuit Court has a high response rate to jury duty with few excusals or no-shows. In contrast, many places see widespread noncompliance, though penalties like fines or jail exist. Frederick mails 7000 questionnaires yearly. fewer than 24 fail to respond, with 87 percent promptly answering when served.

Detrick researchers study deadly Marburg viruses in Sweden
